This small square inspired itself into being during a Turtlestitch workshop in Nano Nagle Place in Cork Ireland. A group of us (Debbie, Danielle, Sorcha, Naoimi, Sorcha, me) led by Richard Millwood spent the final hour deconstructing the Nano Nagle logo and doing some computational thinking to re-design it using turtle logo principles. The resulting program resulted in the embroidery machine stitching the five triangles for us in one go.
Nano Nagle, founder of the Presentation Sisters, was an Irish woman in the 17th C; Penal Law meant she could not be educated here, so she was sent to school in France. When she returned, she at first had to operate in secret to educate the children of Cork. These aspects of her life are represented by the barely visible french knots in black floss on the black felt.
Something tells me Nano would approve of this FemEdTechQuilt project.
