In this square I have portrayed aspects of our OER journey at the University of Cape Town’s Faculty of Health Sciences. The bright colours reflect our motivation and energy in bringing a different perspective to teaching, learning and research. The star represents the hope of a new strategy for knowledge creation and sharing. However, promoting openness has not been a smooth pathway but uneven and rocky. In some instances it has felt like managing the elephant in the room. The bowl symbolizes how our OERs are promoting wellness. The leopard watches over us in a smart, clever and resourceful manner. Overall, we are delighted to celebrate several champions who are spearheading the open movement.
